There is an old saying, ‘There is no matter what toys you buy your kid, they always want to play with the boxes’. Learning through observation is a great way of learning anything; you must have noticed that your kid always asks a lot of questions, kids are eager to know about everything in this world. Toys aid the observation and learning process a lot, by playing with constructive toys such as Rubik’s cube, legos and k’nex logs kids develop the high spatial ability and other skills. Kids live in their own dream world, which is often hugely influenced by fairy tale stories. Kids are too innocent to understand that the world isn’t magical, they believe in Santa leaving gifts for Christmas and that if they do bad things, bad will happen to them. Kids effortlessly make their toys a part of their dream world. Like a boy playing with his toy truck makes it jump off from different furniture andkeeps it going, or he fly’s a toy plane all day in the entire house. A girl child treats her soft toy or doll as her child; she takes care of it pretending to be the mother. This teaches them a sense of responsibility. There are toys like flash cards or interactive learning keyboards, these things can make the learning process much more engaging and interesting and thus decreases the time required by kids to learn things. These things do hamper with the child’s imagination, but in a positive way. These things make a child imagine more and more which is always a good thing. Toys such as Rubik’s cube, which has multiple solutions, can make your child attempt to solve it in different ways, which has a Significant positive effect on his brain. Jigsaw puzzle makes a kid imagine what all possibilities can be to solve the puzzle. Toys such as Lego, which can create an infinite number of different structures, a kid can realise any of his imagination with it. Many times a kid can be seen making his own toys out of curiosity, this brings out his creativity and develops thinking ability. Like how smartly a kid can convert a cardboard box into his dream sports car just by using some marker and crayons or the bubble wrap can be a new bed for her favourite doll. All these are the result of increased imagination. But parents need to be cautious, the kid shouldn’t get too much into their own dream world, this can later cause issues with him in adjusting in the real world. They might get addicted to acute daydreaming, which will hinder their daily life. Also along with playing with toys, kids should be encouraged to participate in outdoor activities too. In the long run, quality of toys never really matters, but the fact is, if chosen wisely toys can be of a great help in overall development of a child. So no, having too many toys does not damage a child's imagination, it, on the contrary, aids their imagination process.
